Floating workshops are designed for urgent repair of ships, their weapons and technical equipment in areas remote from the main points of deployment. They have machinery equipment and lifting devices.

Floating Workshop PM-138 laid down 18 May 1968 at the Stocznia Szczecinska im. A. Warskiego Shipyard, Szczecin, Poland (yard No.304/1), launched 09 November 1968, commissioned 31 October 1969 and was assigned to the Black Sea Fleet.
